Employment Learning Innovations Launches Taking Action:A New Communication Skills Program for Safety-Conscious Work Environments

August 23, 2000

Atlanta, GA - Employment Learning Innovations, Inc. (ELI), the leader in workplace legal training, today released Taking Action(TM): Communication for a Safety-Conscious Work Environment, a course that builds on principles of communication for maintaining a safety-conscious working environment first introduced in Safely Speaking® for Managers.

"Taking Action reinforces a company's commitment to meeting expectations for maintaining a safety-conscious environment," said Stephen Paskoff, President of ELI. "But compliance, as every manager knows, is not based on knowledge of the requirements alone, but also on the ability to model behaviors that help all employees feel comfortable raising concerns."

Taking Action(TM) utilizes video simulations and exercises to help participants build skills in managing a variety of workplace situations, such as prioritizing concerns, separating safety discussions from performance management, preventing a chilled environment in their work area, detecting signs of a hostile work environment, and addressing contractor issues.

"The legal information present in the curriculum addresses issues particularly relevant to the nuclear industry, such as protected activity, refusal to work, and safety-conscious work environment," Paskoff remarked. "More universal workplace concerns of retaliatory, unequal, or hostile treatment of employees are addressed in the program as well."

The program can be customized to address the needs of other highly regulated disciplines such as the airline industry. The four part modular program can be taught either by ELI or instructors certified by ELI.
